The Call
The screen flickers for a moment, and static distortion dances across the image of what appears to be a lectern on a temporary dais, against the backdrop of a Minmatar hangar festooned with hangings depicting a stylised orange wheel.
A tempest class battleship emblazoned with a red circular emblem crossed by gold swords gracefully glides in to dock, powering down it’s engines as the platform’s anti-gravity well grants it buoyancy. The screen clears to show armed Sebiestor in traditional black carapace armour working to load the Tempest with supplies.
The camera draws back slightly, revealing the form of a weary looking Brutor man in a grey robe, flanked by two dark robed Sebiestor with pale skin. They assist their charge up the steps leading to the podium, and draw back to a respectful distance, amid a small crowd of other dark robed, hooded forms, some Sebiestor, some Brutor.
Zooming back in toward the Brutor at the podium, it is apparent from his milk-white eyes that he is blind. From the look of him, he has also suffered the ravages of slavery in the not too distant past. He raises his head and stares at the camera, drawing a Khumaak from beneath his heavy vestments, and laying it before him on the lectern.
His voice is strong, despite his apparent fatigue, and heavily accented with Amarrian, as is often common amongst those who have grown up in slavery.
“Brothers and sisters of Matar, heed my words, and see the truth in them, for it is evident.
Consider the sand on the shores of Matar; Take it up in your hand, and see that each grain is a crystal, unique and beautiful, unconnected to any around it, save perhaps in small clusters. So are the children of Matar unique and beautiful, and the clusters are the tribes that have sprung forth since the rebellion. I speak of such Matari tribes as the People’s Front, to whom I owe my life, and of Oracle, of the Paratwa Ra, and of Iikhelahii Khulemah’lal to name but a few.
However, when the wind blows, you will see the grains driven and scattered from your hand."
"Consider the sandstone cliffs towering above. Look closely, and you will see the same crystals, but there is a difference; the sands are bound together, hard, and fast. However hard the wind blows, the cliffs stand strong. So must the tribes of Matar be strong against the fell wind that is the Amarr Empire. As with the cliff, this strength shall come from unity, lest we be scattered like the sands.
Too long have we quarreled amongst ourselves, handing victory upon victory to the Amarrian beasts whom enslave and destroy our people. We deny ourselves the chance to be strong, choosing to further our own disperate agendas. This is not the Matari way. We must cast aside internal politics and face the foe, for amongst the tribes today, it may be a case of me against my brother, and me and my brother against my cousin, but it must be all against the Amarr, united in purpose!
So it must be, that a time of unity shall come to the tribes. We are a proud people. We are a noble people. We are a warrior people. In ancient days, in times of strife, the Brutor clansmen would carry a mighty drum to the highest peak, and sound it. The call would be answered by neighboring tribes, and a great host would form on the plains below, to ride forth and meet the foe. This warband was known as the Masuat’aa Brutor.
Now is such a time of strife, but the Brutor do not stand alone. Our clans contain Sebiestor, and Krusal. Even those of Thukker descent.
Even now, the drums sound in hearts and minds of loyal Matari warriors across the galaxy. Let us gather together and form the Masuat’aa Matari! Who now hears the call to arms? Who has the heart to answer?
Speak now, those that would answer the call! Let your voice be heard, and your soul be counted amongst the warriors of the Masuat’aa!”
The brutor raises his Khumaak triumphantly above his head as he final word is spoken. The screen fades to black for a moment, before displaying an image of a red sun rising above a barren horizon. Slowly, the picture fades from view.
